Germany Day 2

Now that my head is less dazed, I can give a little more info about where I am. Rachel and I are staying with our Hamline friend Karli who is studying in Trier for the year.

Yesterday, on the way from Frankfurt to Trier, which is about a 3 hour drive, we stopped at Karli's boyfriend, Seb's home in a little German village. It was really awesome to see a real German home as the very first thing to experience in Germany. It reminded me a lot of home, especially the knick-nacks that we have and that my grandparents have too. Stuff that I didn' really even know was German, but apparently is.

We continued on to Trier, and just as we got there I got a migraine. Not so surprising since I was going on only a few hours sleep and lotsa coffee. So I slept it off and we just hung out in Karli and Seb's rooms.

It is really foggy here and rainy, so I guess it'll get me used to Scotland. We walked around the campus today, ate in their cafeteria, and then drove around the city of Trier a little. Did you know it is the oldest city in Germany? Karli and Seb pointed out some Roman ruins to us, baths and a amphitheater.

I understand more German than I thought I would from High School. I've been thinking about that a lot and Frau Hogan!! Rach and I went to one of Karli's classes today, which was like German Culture for international students and I was surprised how much more I was remembering.

There are several Hamlinites here in Trier and the plan for tonight is to meet up with them at a Jazz club. That'll be really awesome, I'm sure!

Yay Trier!! Give it a kiss from me. The best pizza is at Astarix. I'm so jealous that you are there. Can you believe you are at the university where I studied?!

I'm so excited for you. You should definitely go through the Kaiserthermen and the Amphitheater if they are open during the winter. Amazing experiences. The Porta Nigra is also worth checking out if it is open.

You're doing awesome!!

I agree that Asterisk is the best pizza place. We went there this past summer and had a drink with Kari and Prof. Polk. funny huh? I had a delicious pizza too. It sounds like you're having a great time, aside from the migraine. Say hi to Karli for me. Oh - and there were some really cool yarn shops that Katie and I found in Trier so keep your eyes open.

Trier rocks! It was my home for half a year, and I love it.

The best Döner Kebabs are available at Ke Pasta behind the McDonald's in the pedestrian zone by the Porta Nigra.

Glad you got to see Sebastian and Karli!
